ACTIVITIES Focus Group Discussion Project Management Unit (PMU) Acceleration of Development of Zakat and Waqf in Indonesia 2024 was attended and opened by the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Kamaruddin Amin, Thursday (18/4). This activity was also attended by the PMU Team and officials as well as JFT within the Directorate of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment.

In his speech, Kamaruddin emphasized the importance of utilizing the great potential contained in zakat and waqf and ensuring that PMU can provide significant added value to the mandate carried out by Bimas Islam.

Kamaruddin also emphasized the need for strong instruments and focus in carrying out this PMU program. He expressed his hope that PMU can make good progress with strong regulatory support and close collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

By thinking regarding both macro and micro aspects, Kamaruddin is confident that this program can run well and provide great benefits for the Indonesian people.

Meanwhile, Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment Waryono Abdul Ghafur added that it is important to finalize the program steps that will be implemented, and start mapping the stakeholders who will be involved.

“Supporting programs funded from the APBN, zakat and waqf funds must be planned in depth and really produce clear output, so that there are no more programs that are not on target. We must pay more attention to this program because it is one of the priority programs of the Minister of Religion ,” he said.

Head of Sub-Directorate for Education, Innovation and Cooperation of Zakat and Waqf Muhibuddin hopes that the PMU will foster synergy and build collaboration between Ministries/Institutions (K/L), zakat management institutions (BAZNAS and LAZ), Waqf Institutions and Regional Governments in increasing the economic empowerment of the people through development of zakat and waqf in Indonesia.

“PMU will also be a facilitator and coordinator for the Zakat Village, Community Economic Development, Productive Waqf Incubation, and Waqf City programs which consist of planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation and reporting,” he said. (RO/Z-1)
