Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport invests 1.7 trillion won to improve national roads

(Engineering Daily) Reporter Hangil Cho = The government is embarking on an improvement project for sections of national highways with weak road structures.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that it had finalized the 7-step basic plan (2023-2027) to improve dangerous roads or bottlenecks.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the 7-step basic plan includes project types such as ▲ 140 hazardous road improvements ▲ 308 intersection improvements ▲ 35 short section improvements ▲ 6 multi-level crossing facilities installation ▲ 23 bus stop facilities installation.

The 512 projects reflected in the basic plan are sequentially promoted according to investment priorities within the budget that is secured each year. Next year, KRW 297 billion will be invested in the project budget for improving hazardous roads and bottlenecks.

Meanwhile, according to the Korea Transport Institute last year, as a result of analyzing the effect of the completed section, the risk road improvement project reduced the number of accidents by 18% and the number of deaths by 13% in the three years following the war. The bottleneck improvement project showed a 63% decrease in the number of accidents and a 63% decrease in the number of deaths in the first year following the war, and an improvement in speed by 4.9%.
