The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said that the domestic bus industry has promising prospects to strengthen competitiveness while encouraging increased economic value added (EVA).

“We see that the bus industry has bright prospects in 2024, of course this is something that is promising for bus business players in Indonesia,” said Acting Director General of the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika in Jakarta, Monday (22/7) as reported by Between.

He noted that overall sales (factory wholesales to dealers) of national buses rose by 140 percent annually (year on year/yoy) to 6,227 units in 2023.

Meanwhile, at the same time, retail sales of dealers to national bus consumers also grew 59 percent annually (yoy) to 5,369 units.

This quite expansive growth creates a big opportunity for business in the bus sector to be developed.

Putu said this was because the creativity and design of the bus bodywork made in Indonesia was one of the best in the world, and was recognized globally for having competitive prices.

“Buses produced by Indonesian body builders have also been accepted in several export destination countries,” he said.

Furthermore, he said that so far, the Ministry of Industry has consistently continued to encourage the performance of the automotive industry sector in the country, including in terms of increasing the market and car sales domestically.

This is because the automotive industry is one of the sectors that is given priority for development because it is able to make a significant contribution to the national economy.

“The transportation industry will be the main driver of industrial gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2023 with a growth of 7.63 percent or higher than the growth of the industrial sector as a whole. The growth of the transportation industry cannot be separated from the contribution of the automotive sector,” said Putu.

Previously, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the government-borne luxury goods sales tax incentive (PPnBM DTP) could be a solution to overcome the stagnation of the car market, thereby encouraging sales.

According to him, the fiscal incentives have succeeded in increasing domestic vehicle sales by 113 percent in the period March-December 2021, and in January-May 2022, the program succeeded in increasing sales by 95 thousand units. (Z-6)
