THE Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) sees three strategies that can be implemented to restore the ecosystem and create new opportunities for the domestic textile and textile product (TPT) industry. The strategies are strengthening human resources, ensuring the availability of raw materials and upstream-downstream balance, and reviving the national machinery sector.

“Reviving the domestic textile machinery industry which can encourage increased productivity and efficiency of the national TPT industry to face global market competition,” said Acting Director General of the Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Textile Industry (IKFT) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, in Jakarta, Sunday (1/9).

He said the government had made great efforts to eradicate illegal imports and imports of used clothing, including monitoring the sale of products in marketplace and social media. The government also implemented the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy, including actively imposing trade barriers and restructuring machinery.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry’s Standardization and Industrial Policy Agency (BSKJI) is also trying to increase opportunities for the TPT Industry by implementing various certification development activities.

Head of BSKJI Ministry of Industry Andi Rizaldi added, through this activity, it is hoped that industry players can take advantage of the Increased Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) program which in 2024 has an opportunity value of IDR 1,223.37 trillion.

He said that his party was also actively formulating green industry standards to guarantee product quality, considering that the green industry was a great opportunity for the development of the domestic TPT sector.

“Industry players need to know the industry standards that must be met for export requirements, especially those related to the circular economy issue. Diversification of industrial products from this circular economy chain will be an extraordinary business potential,” he said.

The Ministry of Industry noted that in the first quarter of 2024, the textile industry began to show significant performance improvements. This can be seen from the gross domestic product (GDP) experiencing growth of 2.64% annually (yoy).

Exports of the TPT sector also increased by 0.19% or US$2.95 billion in the first quarter of 2024, even though during that period the global market situation was still uncertain due to geopolitical uncertainty. (E-2)
