Ministry of Industry and Commerce promotes reintegration of inmates of Buen Pastor

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Two textile production pavilions were inaugurated in the Buen Pastor Women’s Prison by the microenterprise Doble A, winner of the MSME Competitiveness Program. The objective is to give a new start to women deprived of their freedom and improve their living conditions through social reintegration.

This project is a joint effort of the Ministry of Justice and other State institutions, and is expected to have a long-term positive impact, both for the inmates and the community at large.

The two pavilions are equipped with machinery donated by the company Doble A, as a result of the agreement with the Ministry of Justice, in order to provide employment opportunities to the inmates of the penal institution.

In this regard, Tania Riline, Director General of Financing and Investment, said that some 30 inmates who are part of this program will make uniforms, with the possibility of distributing these products to other companies, thus expanding their work experience. She highlighted the social commitment demonstrated by the companies with this type of actions.

She also announced that the Vice Ministry of MSMEs plans to implement financial and business training for female inmates, with the aim of preparing them to manage their personal finances and foster entrepreneurship once they are released. These activities are scheduled to begin in the coming months.

One of the inmates who benefited from the project also highlighted the importance of these initiatives, pointing out that they offer them an opportunity to improve their situation and demonstrate that they can contribute positively to society.

Riline indicated that the program will soon be expanded to other institutions such as the Villarrica Penitentiary Center and other places, replicating the Buen Pastor model. At the same time, he said that this initiative seeks to raise awareness in the public and private sectors about the importance of offering employment opportunities to people in vulnerable situations, thus supporting their social reintegration in a sustainable manner.
