Jeddah: The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources has started a move to make it a crime to recruit unemployed workers from foreign countries. A fine of 10 lakh riyals will be imposed for such offences. The ministry said that the necessary regulations will be included in the labor laws.
The ministry’s move is to strictly control the recruitment of workers if there is no job under the sponsor. The new guidelines introduced by the ministry specify that there should be employment under sponsorship to recruit workers for domestic occupations and other professional jobs. The worker should not be recruited if there is no work under the sponsor. The ministry has decided to make doing so a crime punishable by a fine of 2 lakh to 10 lakh riyals.
At the same time, if the employers are foreigners, they will be smuggled out of the country. Provision of employment services without a license will also be made an offence. A fine of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh will be imposed for such offences. If the violators are foreigners, they will also be deported. And such violators will be handed over to public prosecution for further legal action.
The Ministry’s new proposals include making such recruiting and employment services, which negatively affect the labor market, illegal and include them in labor laws.
