O federal government expects AI initiatives to meet the main needs of the Unified Health System (SUS), thus improving the logistics and quality of service of this public service. Each idea must necessarily offer tools that help managers and health professionals, such as doctors, nurses and nursing technicians.
Each plan can cover topics such as:
Clinical decision support; Public health and formulation of public policies; Support for frontline healthcare professionals; Health communications and patient trajectories; Strengthening health systems.
This investment is part of the national program Grand Challenges Brasil (“Grand Challenges of Brazil”, in Portuguese), which also includes the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, seeking to solve in an innovative way social problems in the country.
“We promote endogenous innovation (economic movement that circulates resources within a territory) in artificial intelligence so that we are not just incorporating technologies created by developed countries or large companies. Brazil needs to produce technical knowledge, guarantee access and equity”.
