Ministry of Health definitively regulates frontal labeling in Colombia – Health

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported this Tuesday that Resolution 2492 regulating Law 2120 was issued, with which it makes firm the Definitive frontal labeling for ultra-processed foods of the so-called ‘Junk Food Law’.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, who assured that the rulings of the high courts were complied with and the warning stamps that products with components harmful to health must carry were established.

The minister ended her speech by assuring that the Ministry of Health is “complying with the commitments, rulings and laws of the Republic.”

These changes and the decisions around the so-called ‘Junk Food Law’ had been urged in days past from different fronts, since The time limit established by the judgments for the modification of this Resolution was close to expiration.

Faced with the announcement of the head of portfolio, the “José Alvear Restrepo” Lawyers’ Collective (Cajar) celebrated the decision and stressed that: “The octagonal seals guarantee the willingness to access clear, truthful, timely, visible, suitable and sufficient information , on food components in order to promote healthy eating habits”.

Likewise, like Minister Corcho, Cajar affirmed that the measure is an achievement of civil society, but also of human rights defenders who, for four years, have been fighting to promote healthy food environments, guaranteeing the fundamental right to health.
