Ministry of Health completes one year of management improving access to decompress services

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Health stressed that from August 2023 Actions were taken to improve access to health services, from night clinics to agreements for surgical interventions and the decentralization of chemotherapy, among others.

As for night clinics, currently 35 health services have extended hours until 9:00 p.m. and by December of this year, this will be applied in some 44 more Family Health Units (USF).

This service allows for the relief of emergencies and improved health care and already has 325,526 consultations, highlighted the Minister of Health, María Teresa Barán.

Another measure to relieve the strain on health services is the Ministry’s agreements with other departments, such as the Ministry of Defense and other entities, which allowed 3,813 scheduled surgeries to be carried out at the Military Hospital and in health services in 11 departments of the country.

Decentralization

The health ministry promoted the decentralization of services such as kidney and cornea transplants, which began to be performed in the Alto Paraná department.

As for cancer patients, with the implementation of the day care network for chemotherapy in 9 decentralized services, 1,400 people receive chemotherapy at INCAN and more than 1,500 patients in the 9 decentralized hospitals.

The tenth chemotherapy service will soon be inaugurated at the Regional Hospital of Concepción.

HIS system and public spending

The Ministry of Health also highlighted the expansion of the HIS System, an information exchange system in the public health system that allows for better coordination for decision-making and monitoring of clinical records.

The digital transformation of services has advanced by leaps and bounds since August 2023, with the connection of 268 new establishments to the HIS by July 2024, totaling 508 connected services in the 18 Health Regions, the management report states.

Regarding public spending, the Ministry fully paid off a debt of US$320 million with suppliers from the previous administration. Measures were also implemented to optimize resources and improve the quality of spending, which allowed for savings of more than US$180 million, guaranteeing the same supply of medicines with the same industries.
