Ministry of Health carries out the first major renovation of the Itauguá Hospital in 34 years

Asunción, IP Agency.- The National Hospital of Itauguá is in the process of modernization and renovation in critical areas, while the Government has a project to build a new headquarters and expand its care capacity.

For the first time in 34 years, renovations of this magnitude are being carried out in sensitive areas that, since then, have only been intervened with minor works, indicated the Ministry of Health.

The areas that have a total renovation planned correspond to Nephrology, Oncology, Adults, Intensive Care and Emergencies.

“The sectors that we have begun to renovate and remodel are the critical areas. The Nephrology service has new paints and floors, a central air conditioner, a waiting room for kidney patients and their families, taking into account the needs of users waiting to enter dialysis sessions,” explained the hospital director. Dr. Miguel Ferreira.

“In more days, 15 new hemodialysis machines will arrive, and we have a total renovation of the nephrology sector that, in 34 years, has not seen any repair of this magnitude,” he stated.

In the adult intensive care service, a complete remodeling of the facilities was carried out, with new paint and floors, as well as furniture, with the renovation of beds, monitors, respirators and all equipment.

“We also completely renewed the oncology sector, and patients diagnosed with cancer, both breast, kidney, gastrointestinal, as well as hematological, are received and cared for in a completely sterile environment for them, with floors, bathrooms, air conditioners “new ones,” explained Dr. Ferreira, adding that works are also underway in the Emergency Room waiting room.

New hospital project

On a 60-hectare property behind the hospital, a new headquarters will be built that aims to be the largest hospital within the public system. It will have 720 beds and will increase the capacity of the operating room, from 12 to 20 beds.

The Government already has the feasibility study for what will be a investment of USD 150 million.

At this time, the call for LPN No. 48/2024 – “Maintenance and Building Repair of Specialized Hospitals of the Central and Capital Department” is under verification at the National Directorate of Public Procurement, for an amount of G. 40,000. 000,000. This will also allow work to continue in this and other services of the Ministry of Health.
