Ministry of Defense ordered to redouble efforts to stop the advance of AGC in the North of Santander

The Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, presided over a Security Council in Cúcuta to analyze the acts of violence that affect that border area, especially the advance of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, -AGC- or Clan del Golfo towards that sector .

During the development of the meeting with the regional authorities, the intelligence report that would establish the “expansion plan” of that armed group was presented.

The Minister pointed out in this regard that “in the face of the expansive purposes of the Clan del Golfo in Norte de Santander, I have instructed the Public Force to redouble their activities with forceful action, to prevent these criminal manifestations in this region of the country.”

The security council also seeks to implement the Human Security Policy in that sector of the country, to increase actions related to countering actions related to drug trafficking.

And it is that according to the figures delivered by the security council, in that department more than 300 tons of cocaine are produced, which corresponds to more than a fifth of what is produced in the country.

Minister Iván Velásquez ratified the instruction given by the President of the Republic Gustavo Petro, in the sense of increasing the seizure of cocaine and supplies.

The head of the defense portfolio pointed out that “it is necessary to affect from the production, distribution, export and economic performance that this illegal activity produces to organizations.”
