New ENIN funding call starts on Wednesday, August 9th

Vienna (OTS) The new funding program “Emission-free commercial vehicles and infrastructure” (ENIN) of the Ministry of Climate Protection is a complete success. The first round of tenders this year already resulted in funding commitments of 122 million euros for fleet conversion and charging infrastructure, putting 1,685 emission-free commercial vehicles on the road. The second call for applications will now start on August 9th with a funding volume of 28 million euros. A total of EUR 150 million in ENIN funding is available to Austrian companies this year.

In the first call for proposals, 98 projects from all federal states were considered. 1,245 zero-emission commercial vehicles in the N1 class and 440 zero-emission commercial vehicles in the N2/N3 classes are being funded with a total of 122 million euros. E-mobility has finally arrived with large trucks in goods mobility, in the municipal sector as well as with the fire brigades.

On Wednesday, August 9th, the second round of calls will start, which will again be handled by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). It is open until September 27th. A total of 28 million euros will be tendered. In turn, the fleet conversion to non-fossil-powered commercial vehicles and the associated charging infrastructure are funded. In detail, there are battery-electric commercial vehicles, commercial vehicles with hydrogen fuel cell drive and commercial vehicles in vehicle classes N1, N2 and N3 that draw their traction power from an overhead line using pantographs. In addition, special vehicles are funded for vehicle classes N2 and N3 and, for the first time, the conversion of the drive train.

Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler:

“The promotion of emission-free trucks is the logical next step for the decarbonisation of road transport. We are overwhelmed by the large number of high-quality projects in the logistics industry as well as numerous projects in the municipal sector. I am glad that the budget available for this tender could be increased and that we will see the first vehicles on Austria’s roads in the next few months.”

About ENIN:

The “Emission-free commercial vehicles and infrastructure” funding program of the Ministry of Climate Protection supports companies in switching their fleets to non-fossil-powered commercial vehicles and in setting up the necessary charging and refueling infrastructure. Through the EU Commission’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RFF) and other national funds, Austria has a total of 365 million euros at its disposal until the end of 2025.

The aim is to significantly accelerate the vehicle conversion to emission-free commercial vehicles in Austria. The funding program thus contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving resources. In addition, the market ramp-up of these technologies should be accelerated and the costs of these emission-free technologies should be reduced in the medium term.

Current tender:

The next call for applications will start on August 9th. It is open until September 27, 2023.

All projects submitted to the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) are evaluated by an independent expert jury.
