Ministry: 14 people were killed in a Ukrainian strike in the Russian city of Belgorod

“According to the latest data, 12 adults and two children were killed in Belgorod. Another 108 people, including 15 children, were injured,” the Emergencies Ministry said.

It was previously reported that nine adults and one child were killed, and 45 people, including 4 children, were injured.

Images posted on social media showed burning cars in Belgorod and black smoke billowing from damaged buildings as air-raid sirens blared. One of the shots hit near a public ice rink in the heart of the city.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the munitions used in the strike were Czech-made Vampire missiles and Olkha cluster munitions. She did not provide any additional information, and The Associated Press might not verify her claims.

The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin had been informed of the Ukrainian strike, and the country’s Health Minister Mikhail Murashka had been ordered to join a delegation of medical personnel and rescuers traveling from Moscow to Belgorod.

“President Vladimir Putin was informed regarding the strike by the Ukrainian armed forces on the residential areas of Belgorod,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the TASS news agency.

The Russian Defense Ministry, for its part, stated that Ukraine will not go unpunished.

“This crime will not go unpunished,” the ministry said in a statement.

Moscow has also requested a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the Kyiv attack.

“We have asked to hold a meeting of the Security Council regarding Belgorod today, December 30, at 3 p.m. New York (10 p.m. Lithuanian) time,” said Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the UN Dmitrijus Polianskis.

Earlier on Saturday, Moscow officials said they had shot down 32 Ukrainian drones over Moscow, Bryansk, Oryol and Kursk regions.
