Egypt’s parliament on Saturday approved a cabinet reshuffle that includes 13 portfolios, in the fifth cabinet reshuffle since the start of Egyptian President Abdelfattah al-Sissi’s second term, according to the Egyptian News Agency.

The ministerial reshuffle concerns 13 portfolios, notably those of health, aviation, immigration, as well as that of local development and education, according to the same source.

Earlier on Saturday, the Egyptian President said in a statement the following: “I convened the House of Representatives today to discuss the reshuffling of a number of ministerial portfolios, following consultation with the Prime Minister.”

According to Article 147 of the Egyptian Constitution, “The President of the Republic may carry out a ministerial reshuffle following consultation with the Prime Minister and approval by the House of Representatives by an absolute majority of those present and at least one third of the members of the Parliament.”

On Friday, the House of Representatives therefore shortened its parliamentary recess, which runs from July 5 to next October, to examine an “urgent” matter.

According to Article 116 of the Constitution, “The House of Representatives may hold a special meeting to consider an urgent matter, upon the invitation of the President of the country or upon the request signed by at least one tenth of the members of the House.”

According to Anadolu Agency, this cabinet reshuffle is the fifth in the government of Mustafa Madbouly, who took office as Prime Minister 4 years ago.
