Written by Medhat Wahba Wednesday, December 6, 2023 02:00 PM Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi issued, Minister of Supply And internal trade, Ministerial Directive No. 30 of 2023 includes new rules regarding the trading of local and imported sugar, in order to address the phenomenon of high prices, reduce them, and offer basic commodities to the consumer at a reasonable price.
In view of the strategic importance of the commodity sugar and the varying prices in the markets, it will be put on the market at a price not exceeding 27 pounds per kilo for the consumer.
The decision stressed the need to oblige commercial companies to notify the producing companies of the names and addresses of the packaging companies and commercial chains to which sales were made according to electronic sales invoices. Sugar producing companies also notify (the Control and Distribution Sector – Supply Investigations – Consumer Protection Agency) of the sales invoices on a daily basis, explaining them. The name and address of the buyer, the quantity sold, as well as the packaging companies to which the sale was made and the commercial chains.
The regulatory agencies (the Control and Distribution Sector, the Supply Investigations Department, and the Consumer Protection Agency) coordinate among themselves and follow up on buyers from production companies, as well as follow up on the supply chains until the commodity reaches the final consumer. The regulatory agencies also conduct a field visit to all the various sales outlets and verify the “invoice and the name of the packaging company, along with the writing.” Price, weight of package, and verify all data in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 120 of 2017.
The second article of the decision included obligating the concerned authorities to implement this directive and act on it from the date of its issuance, and to cancel the implementation of Ministerial Directive No. 27 of 2022.
