Vincent Van Quickenborne celebrated his fiftieth birthday on August 14 at his villa in Kortrijk. The Minister of Justice, who has been under police surveillance since September 2022, invited several friends, family members and members of the Open VLD. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo was also there.
And it would seem that the evening, which ended in the wee hours of the morning, was well watered. Indeed, as reported by our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad, three guests, under the influence of alcohol, would have left the villa staggering and urinated on one of the police suits, empty, parked in front of the villa of the Minister of Justice.
This had the merit of making other guests laugh, all under the eyes of Vincent Van Quickenborne himself.
As a reminder, the Minister benefits from police surveillance, he who had been the target of an attempted kidnapping during the month of September 2022. To reinforce his security as well as that of his family, surveillance cameras were also installed by the authorities.
They therefore filmed the facts on August 14th. The head of the police force was furious: “We have worked hard to protect this man and his family and now his guests are playing such a ‘prank’ on us. This kind of drunken jokes does not make us laugh at all”, he confides to our colleagues.
This Wednesday, the prosecution was informed of the facts and opened an investigation for contempt of agent. Vincent Van Quickenborne and his wife will be heard in the context of this case in order to identify the persons concerned.
The cabinet of the elected Open Vld informs that the minister himself was not present during the events and that he “obviously strongly disapproves” of this behavior. “If the police have made findings, they must be followed up,” he said.
The police and the prosecution confirm that Minister Van Quickenborne was not a witness to the alleged facts.
