In a recent statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Yvan Gil, dismissed the existence of the Aragua Train, an international criminal organization of Venezuelan origin. According to Gil, this entity is a “fiction created by the international media” similar to the “alleged Los Soles Cartel.”
However, these statements found a strong response from Chilean authorities, who did not hesitate to refute the comments of the Venezuelan Foreign Minister.
The Minister of the Interior of Chile, Carolina Tohá, described Gil’s words as “unacceptable”, highlighting that the Aragua Train has affected not only Chile, but other Latin American countries, causing human, commercial and security losses in various communities. . “It is an insult, not only to the government of Chile, but to the people of Chile and the people of Latin America,” said Tohá.
For his part, Eduardo Cerna, general director of the Investigative Police (PDI), supported the position of the Minister of the Interior, pointing out that there is compelling evidence of the existence and activity of the Aragua Train. Cerna highlighted that exhaustive investigations have been carried out, supported by scientific evidence and georeferencing, which confirms the reality of this criminal organization.
“The evidence is evident. Meticulous, long-standing investigative processes have been developed, with scientific evidence, with georeferencing, with tangible evidence,” said Cerna, adding that the Venezuelan Foreign Minister should learn more regarding the issue before issuing comments.
The statements of the Chilean authorities reflect the country’s concern and commitment to combating transnational organized crime and protecting the security of its citizens and the Latin American region as a whole.
