Minister Ousmane Gaoual Diallo meets Mathias BEHNKE, Central and West Africa manager of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Mediaguinee.org

Wednesday, March 15, 2023-While working in Geneva, the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, spokesperson for the government of the Republic of Guinea, met with Matthias BEHNKE, the head of Central Africa and West of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Accompanied by the Ambassador to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Guinea in Geneva and his delegation, Minister Ousmane Gaoual DIALLO and Matthias BEHNKE discussed the cooperation between the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Republic of Guinea in the framework of the good success of the political transition under way in the Republic of Guinea.

The Minister notably recalled the ongoing intentional rectification and the important reforms carried out by the transitional government, under the leadership of the Head of State, Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, with the aim of improving governance and promoting fair justice for all Guineans.

He also underlined the deep attachment of the Transitional Government and its President to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted seventy-five (75) years ago.

It is in this capacity that for the first time in the history of the Republic of Guinea, leaders and senior executives of the country are brought before Guinean courts to answer for their management and the charges brought once morest them in connection with acts of serious violations of human rights.

This interview therefore allowed information to be shared, in particular on the many efforts of the Guinean State in terms of respect and preservation of human rights in accordance with the country’s commitments and the very vision of the transitional authorities, decided to make Justice the compass.

For his part, Mr. BEHNKE encouraged Guinea to conduct an inclusive transition, in order to avoid breaking the social contract and to achieve this important transition for the people of Guinea. He recalled that his organization does not aim to give lessons, but, on the contrary, to accompany States in the promotion and respect of human rights.

The two parties concluded the meeting by recalling the important role that respect for human rights plays in maintaining Guinea’s political stability and the success of its transition.
