Minister of Youth and Sports Regrets BPIP’s Indecisive Response to Paskibraka Removing Hijab

President Jokowi confirms the 2024 Paskibraka (Antara)

THE Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo regretted the indecisiveness of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) regarding the phenomenon of the female Flag Raising Troops (Paskibraka) who removed their hijabs during their inauguration in front of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago some time ago.

“We must safeguard this together in the future. Don’t let it be that the reason for uniformity is to violate the values of strength that individuals already have,” said Dito at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (15/8).

Although BPIP has provided an official statement, he considered the response from the institution to be less than firm and had not yet answered the public’s concerns.

“Yesterday, we immediately conducted an investigation and also an in-depth study. Because indeed for the flag-raising team since 2022, all authority has been fully withdrawn from BPIP and yesterday it turned out that BPIP had also held a press conference even though the answer was not firm and immediately revised. So I really regret it,” said Dito.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, which has a role in overseeing youth, said it would prevent similar incidents from happening again. He ensured that the management of the Paskibraka in the future would be better. Given that Pabkiraka officers are entirely comprised of young men and women from the country.

“So I will try to move forward even though Paskibraka is no longer our authority. However, because Paskibraka is filled with young people, the young generation who are automatically our responsibility, we guarantee that in the future we will take steps to prevent the coaching and also the management of Paskibraka in the future,” he said.

Currently there is no specific direction from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding this matter. Because the full authority of the officers is in the hands of BPIP.

“Of course not yet (there are any instructions). Because yes, the authority is not in the Ministry of Youth and Sports. We do not have any authority but there is BPIP. But I as a minister who also handles young people will take the steps that must be taken,” said Dito. (Z-8)
