MINISTER of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi inaugurated the reactivation of Pondok Rajeg Station in Cilodong District, Depok, West Java, Saturday (19/10). This step will improve connectivity in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas. The reactivation of the Pondok Rajeg station was carried out after it had not operated since 2006.

“Several years ago I came here and the Pondok Rajeg station was not yet functioning. Today the station can be functional and people will enjoy the convenience of using public transportation,” he said in an official statement, Saturday (19/10).

Pondok Rajeg Station serves commuter line electric train (KRL) trips across Jakarta Kota-Nambo. The Minister of Transportation hopes that the reactivation will be able to reduce congestion in Jabodetabek due to the high use of private vehicles compared to public transportation.

The reactivation of the Pondok Rajeg station will be carried out by the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) since 2022 at a cost of IDR 27.9 billion. Currently, the management of Pondok Rajeg station has been handed over to the Directorate General of Railways through the Jakarta Class I Railway Engineering Center.

Acting Head of BPTJ Suharto stated that this construction or reactivation was an effort to distribute existing passengers at Cibinong Station, Nambo Station, as well as generating new trips in line with the target of 5000 passengers per day.

Depok Mayor Muhammad Idris welcomed the reactivation of Pondok Rajeg Station. This joint collaboration is expected to be able to reduce traffic jams and improve the economy of the city of Depok.

“As many as 65% of Depok residents are immigrants, so Depok residents and their families in other places will experience the convenience of public transportation to and from Depok,” he said. (D-3)
