The Minister of the Economy Guy Parmelin calls for the responsibility of households to face inflation, the rise in health insurance premiums and the rise in energy prices. There is no quick help once morest the loss of purchasing power, according to him.
‘Everyone should ask themselves how they can contribute’ to limiting costs, adds Mr. Parmelin in an interview broadcast on Saturday by Schweiz am Wochenende.
Citing the example of reductions in health insurance premiums, he points the finger at the cantons. ‘Certain cantons have not used their room for maneuver sufficiently to cushion the shock of premiums for their population.’ As for individuals, continues the federal councilor, they have the possibility of changing health insurance and saving money.
Publication of previous rent
On the side of energy prices, the Vaudois UDC believes that the cantons and municipalities have a role to play: ‘They would have the power to say: ‘We are only partially passing on the price increase to the population ”. However, he says he is aware that investments are necessary in the energy sector, but company owners have a responsibility, he adds.
The Minister of the Economy considers that he can only act on rent increases. According to him, it would be possible to introduce the obligation to complete a form at federal level to force landlords to publish the previous rent in the event of a change of tenant. ‘This makes it easier to challenge an unfair rent increase. Plus, it’s free. This obligation does not apply in all cantons.
Mr. Parmelin also indicates that he has instructed the Federal Housing Office to review the mechanisms for setting rents. The rent adjustment system dates from the 1980s, he notes. ‘Is this still relevant?’
