The Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, was present in the region to visit different infrastructures and works and one of them was the construction of the bike cross track at the Quilamapu Sports Complex in Chillán, which is 80% complete.

The sports authority highlighted the characteristics of the space dedicated to BMX, ensuring that it complies with the standard to host national and international events, which would even position it as a development point for the discipline in Chile. “According to what we saw in the Pan American Games, it is a well-designed track, it has the starters, which is one of the requirements of this specialty, and it has the collaboration of specialists for the design and implementation.”

Regarding the impressions that the tour of the track left him, the minister added that “this BMX track is very attractive, not only because the region has had a strategic sport in this discipline, but because it has also produced great athletes, who “Having this level of infrastructure, they will be able to train and attract new talents and bring competition, which is one of the most anticipated elements for athletes,” said who during the last week of April hopes to return to the commune to analyze a new state of progress of the work.

The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, was also on the visit to the infrastructure being built in Quilamapu, an instance in which he established that the new work is not a product of chance, but is inspired by the positive results obtained by the Chillanejos ago. decades. “We are happy because we are advancing at a steady pace in this sports infrastructure that we have materialized between the Municipality and the Regional Government. With the minister’s visit we are putting a stamp on a need and an infrastructure that will allow us to have a development pole, possibly the most important in Chile, as bike cross has always been in Chillán.”
In addition, the mayor added that one of the goals of the current administration is to spread BMX and other sports in the commune.

“We have a Municipal workshop with our schools and it takes place on the other track and without a doubt there must be a transversal sporting aspect, we want Chillán to be a bicycle city in the future.”

The Seremi of Sports, Julio Jorquera, concluded that “we are leaving sport as a priority at the regional level, the BMX track is at a high level to receive national and international competitions. “We are going to continue working together with the municipality, with the Regional Government and with the Ministry of Sports to articulate sports management for the benefit of the communities.”
