Minister of Religion Asks PKB Cak Imin to Respect Differences in Congress

Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (Doc.MI)

Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas hopes that the National Awakening Party (PKB) congresses other than the one held in Bali should be treated as differences of opinion.

“The issue of the Congress in Bali has been completed and I think there is no competition, I think, but if there is another Congress, it is possible, and that is allowed in the political mechanism, I don’t know. But I did not initiate it,” explained Gus Yaqut, at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, today.

“There is no rival. In my opinion, there is no rival congress. What was conveyed by the initiators that should have been on September 2-3, they said that it was the actual congress, that’s their version, not a rival,” he said.

Gus Yaqut said that the PKB should respect the perspectives of those who have a different Muktamar agenda from the Muktamar in Bali. “A Muktamar that is different from the one in Bali is legitimate as long as it has a basis. As long as the basis is clear,” he said.

Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) is not worried about the discourse of a rival congress. The movement was initiated by former Secretary General (Sekjen) of PKB Lukman Edy.

“It won’t have any effect,” said Cak Imin when met at the Metro TV Building, West Jakarta, Thursday, August 29, 2024.

Cak Imin said the movement was carried out by a handful of people. They were also said to be no longer active in the party.

Previously, PKB had completed its 6th Congress at the Nusa Dua Convention Center, Bali, Sunday, August 25, 2024. This Congress also confirmed Cak Imin as general chairman and appointed Vice President Ma’ruf Amin as Chairman of the PKB Syura Council. (Ykb/P-2)
