Contacted by us, the office of the Minister of Mobility (also Minister of Climate and Energy) informs us that the desire of Minister Philippe Henry is not to automatically return the speed to 80 km/h or to maintain it 50 km/h, things are far from being established. The minister’s office explains that it will wait for the analyzes before making a decision; many factors come into play.

There is a downward trend in the number of accidents or injuries. A first observation indicates that the number of incidents is divided by two. The figures confirming this trend are currently being analyzed and will be available soon.

It is already certain that a change in the maximum speed cannot be considered before the end of this year 2024

tells us Héloise Winandy de la SOFICO.

And to add in a press release, that the deliveries of the missing equipment to the right bank of the Meuse and their installation are being planned. The majority of the equipment will be operational following the next summer holidays, a period corresponding to the modernization of the Cointe tunnel towards Brussels. Traffic conditions will be modified in the area. This period will also be used to continue interventions in the upstream area, in the Kinkempois tunnel. It will then remain to finalize the modernization of dynamic signaling by the end of the year.

And to conclude on the budget, closely monitored: the replacement market for this equipment had to be relaunched because the offer received was estimated to be too high. All the conditions allowing us to consider raising the maximum speed should be met by the end of this year.
