Minister of Labor led labor inspection operation in border area

Asuncion, IP Agency.- In a joint effort to ensure the protection of labor rights, the Minister of Labor, Mónica Recalde, together with the National Directorate of Migration, led a rigorous labor inspection and oversight operation in the department of Alto Paraná, specifically in Ciudad del Este, a border area with Brazil.

Minister Recalde personally led these actions, stressing the importance of maintaining effective control in areas with a high flow of migrants seeking better job opportunities. These areas, often characterized by informality, require special attention to ensure decent working conditions for all workers, both national and foreign.

“Today I am personally carrying out labour inspections in the construction sector, specifically at a housing project. During these visits, we are conducting detailed interviews to verify that occupational health and safety measures are strictly adhered to. The aim of these inspections is to minimise the risks of occupational accidents, and to ensure that each worker has a formal job,” he explained.

Labor enforcement is a key tool in our mission to protect workers’ rights and prevent workplace accidents. By ensuring that working conditions are safe and that employees are formally registered, we promote not only workplace safety, but also access to essential social benefits such as health insurance, pensions, and other labor rights.

In the context of the Mercosur bloc, Paraguay, together with Brazil and Argentina, has established agreements to protect the rights of migrant workers. These bilateral agreements allow citizens to work in a neighboring country while maintaining their residence in their country of origin, facilitating labor mobility through temporary work and residence permits. In addition, they relax immigration controls in key areas, such as Ciudad del Este and Foz de Iguazú.

These agreements also guarantee social protection for workers, allowing them to contribute to the social security systems of both countries. This ensures their access to essential benefits, such as retirement, pensions and health insurance. Likewise, emphasis is placed on equal treatment, ensuring that Paraguayan workers in Brazil and Argentina enjoy the same working and salary conditions as local citizens.

Such operations and agreements underline Paraguay’s commitment to protecting labor rights and promoting a protected work environment for all, the Ministry of Labor reported.
