The office of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, said in a statement: “One of the deputies came to our attention today with false allegations attributing to the Minister of Interior that he declared in Parliament his inability to hold municipal and elective elections.

Minister Mawlawi’s office is important to remind everyone that the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, which has proven its readiness and ability to hold parliamentary elections on time, contrary to what some had intended at the time, is fully capable of conducting municipal and elective elections logistically and administratively when it secures the necessary funding (which we recall that Mawlawi has repeatedly requested since last January).

In this context, Mawlawi’s office reaffirms the need to respect the constitutional deadlines and deadlines for the regularity of the work of institutions, and the importance of giving the Lebanese an opportunity to express their opinions in full transparency.
