MINISTER of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized his support for the presence of a task force (satgas) for handling illegal imported goods formed by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag). Tomorrow, Friday (19/7) morning, the Minister of Industry will meet with the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) to finalize the working mechanism for eradicating illegal goods entering Indonesia.

“In principle, we support him to form this task force. Tomorrow at 10 am I will meet the Minister of Trade at his office. He is my senior, a close friend. It is in our interest to find a solution to this illegal import,” explained the Minister of Industry at the PIDI 4.0 Building (Center for Digital Industry 4.0), Jakarta, Thursday (18/7).

According to Agus, to eradicate illegal products from abroad, it is not enough to just enforce the law. However, there must be other concrete efforts to limit the circulation of imported goods in the country. Although involved in the task force, the Minister of Industry admitted that he would fully submit to the Ministry of Trade regarding the implementation of enforcement of restrictions on imported goods in the market.

“So don’t be sterile in law enforcement, this must be underlined. Later, what form it will take will be formulated by the Ministry of Trade. They are the ones leading this task force. We fully support this task force 100%,” said the Golkar politician.

The Minister of Industry said that protection once morest illegal imports is very necessary to protect domestic industries and minimize unhealthy trade practices such as dumping. For this reason, Agus also supports the regulation of the imposition of Anti-Dumping Import Duty (BMAD) and Safeguard Import Duty (BMTP) or safeguards to save local industries.

“So, there are goods that are legally entering Indonesia, but it makes the domestic industry suffer, because of the cheap import price. How was that done? Namely with BMTP, BMAD. Maybe also by implementing Indonesian national standards (SNI) or technical regulations (pertek),” he concluded. (Z-6)
