Union sources revealed that the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, has invited the unions to attend a meeting to be held this evening, Friday, to discuss the tension that has been plaguing the sector for many weeks.

The same sources confirmed that the leaders of the union coordination received calls from the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Health to hold the meeting, noting that they “have not yet decided their position on attending or boycotting the meeting.”

According to the same sources, the meeting to which the unions were summoned was expected to be attended only by the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Health to discuss the demands and pending files, but the unions refused to attend unless at least the Minister participated.

This comes at a time when the unions are experiencing a rhythm of disagreement between their components regarding the invitation that was sent to them today, Friday, as parties within the union coordination are demanding the necessity of the presence of a representative of the Prime Minister’s Office at the meeting, considering that the file directly concerns the Prime Minister’s Office, and that the unions had previously agreed with the Minister of Health.

The expected meeting comes a day following the government confirmed, through its official spokesman, Mustafa Baitas, that the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, will sit at the dialogue table with the sector’s unions.

During the press conference following the government council held yesterday, Thursday, Baitas did not indicate a specific date for the meeting, which he said would bring together the Minister of Health and the sector’s unions, while he confirmed that this meeting would be held very soon.

The same minister explained, in response to press questions regarding the government’s vision of the crisis facing the health sector, that the upcoming meeting will be devoted to discussing various issues related to the sector’s workers.
