However, this proposal does not satisfy the trade union of Lithuanian education workers led by Andriaus Navickas, who on Wednesday intends to resume the strike that started at the end of September and was stopped in mid-October. The trade union also disagrees with the ministry regarding the structure of the workload and reducing the number of students in classes.
According to the ministry, as agreed with the other four trade unions in the collective agreement of the Lithuanian education and science branch, which was updated in October, a plan will be prepared in the first half of next year for the long-term salary increase of teachers until 2028.
A review of staff positions in educational institutions has also been initiated, and the first steps regarding the reduction of classes have been planned. From the next academic year, state funding will be reduced for municipalities that form too large classes.
