MINISTER of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said that the government is paying special attention and continuing to carry out development in Papua.
“Papua is a part of Indonesia that needs special attention. 30 million hectares are still forests, the development of which also requires the involvement of residents,” said Budi when met at his office, Monday (5/8).
He explained that one of the steps taken by his party was to plan to build a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) tower. However, there were a number of obstacles so that the construction of the BTS could not be completed as planned.
“We are targeting the construction of 678 BTS. However, only 500 have been realized, so special attention is needed,” he said.
Budi said there are still a number of obstacles faced. This is because Papua still adopts the customary system in community life. This is what the government needs to adjust in developing Papua.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the Minister of Communication and Information also received a visit from seven journalists from various media who will be sent to Jayapura, Papua.

The visit to Papua is a program from the Ministry of Communication and Information to strengthen the relationship between journalists in Papua and Java. In 2022, Papuan journalists have visited Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Solo. Continued in 2023, West Papuan journalists have also visited Jakarta and Bandung.
So now, the Ministry of Communication and Information is sending journalists from Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta to Papua. This is intended as a return visit. Budi reminded journalists not to leave Papua out of media coverage.
“We remain with Papua. So development steps must continue to be taken,” he explained.
Furthermore, he wants the understanding of Advanced Indonesia and Golden Indonesia to be able to involve Papua without leaving anyone behind.
“For that, motivation is needed, there needs to be a good example from Papua so that it can inspire,” he said. (P-5)
