The Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Sadiki, went to Meknes last Monday to inquire regarding the progress of work and preparations for the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM). The 15th edition of this event is scheduled for May 2 to 7, 2023. During his visit, the Minister took the time to inspect the various spaces reserved for SIAM exhibitors and visitors. He also spoke with the organizers to ensure that all the logistical details were in place for the upcoming opening of the show.

For a security sustainable food
This edition of the Show promises to be extremely rewarding with the holding of numerous conferences and seminars on current topics relating to food sovereignty, climate change and the adaptation of agriculture to the new challenges posed by climate change. .

“These meetings will provide an opportunity for our country to define and put in place the foundations necessary to ensure sustainable food security,” said the Minister, adding that this edition will be marked by the participation of a large delegation from the ministries of Agriculture of several countries.

This international presence will make it possible to exchange ideas, share good practices and strengthen relations between the various players in the agricultural world. In addition, it will provide a unique opportunity to learn from different countries’ experiences and approaches to food sovereignty and climate change, and adapt them to the needs of our own country.

Twenty contracts-scheduled programs
During his visit, the Minister announced the signing soon of 20 program contracts for the development of agricultural production sectors, as part of the implementation of the Generation Green strategy.

These program contracts aim to support farmers in the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices that respect the environment. They will also make it possible to strengthen the competitiveness of agricultural sectors and stimulate production, while guaranteeing fair remuneration for producers.

“These program contracts are particularly awaited by professionals in the agricultural sector, as they offer an opportunity to restore the balance of the main agricultural sectors, which have suffered significant disruption due to the health crisis linked to covid-19 and the the war in Ukraine,” said the Minister.

Indeed, the successive crises of recent years have had a negative impact on demand and production, which has affected the financial viability of many farms. The program contracts proposed by the ministry are therefore a crucial measure to support these farms and guarantee their economic sustainability. The implementation of these program contracts would make it possible to formalize the links between the various actors involved in each sector, to establish clear responsibilities and to mobilize all the stakeholders to support the development of the sectors within the framework of the ambitious objectives defined by Generation Green, initiated in 2020.
