Minister: Maths test results show more students will pass exam

“We should look at how matriculation exams used to look, and how many points were required to pass, and what percentage of points graduates usually scored in matriculation exams. We can see that 16% was required to pass the exam. points, what proportion was collected by at least 40 percent points – now that part is bigger”, G. Jakštas told BNS on Tuesday in the Seimas.

“Although it would seem that the average number of points is small, less than half are collected, but it was always like this, and if you look at how many graduates scored at least 40%. points, in the intermediate we see that a higher number of eleventh graders scored 40% in the intermediate maths A-level test. points”, noted the minister.

According to him, this means that if eleventh graders maintain a similar level and “score points at the same rate in other intermediates,” next year there will be more students who have passed the maths exam than they have so far.

“Since it was said that the exam is difficult, and most of them are potentially marching at such a pace in order to pass the exams, we can assume that in the eleventh grade they prepared responsibly for the intermediate exams and the results were better,” said G. Jakštas.

The National Education Agency (NŠA) published the first results of the Intermediate 11th examinations on Tuesday, the overall average of the mathematics A-level examination does not exceed half of the maximum possible marks.

According to the NŠA, 13,332 11th graders participated in the mathematics (advanced course) test, and the total average of points scored is 8.5 out of 20 possible. However, it is noted that the candidates collected an average higher percentage of points compared to the percentage of points collected during the state matriculation exam in mathematics last year.

“The fact that more than a third of those who took part in the first mid-term test of the extended mathematics course scored half and more of the possible points, shows that the eleventh graders were sufficiently well prepared and will improve their results even more when they come to the second test and the matriculation exam,” says Aidas Aldakauskas, interim director of the NŠA, in a statement. .

750 students who took this test scored 17 or more points, and 120 students scored the maximum number of points.

Candidates will take the second intermediate mathematics test and the matriculation exam in the next academic year. Therefore, according to NŠA, they will have two opportunities to improve their results.

The preliminary results of the first foreign language (French), philosophy, economics and entrepreneurship are also announced. According to NŠA, the results of the B-level tests in physics and mathematics, which caused discussions, will be announced later, as their tasks are currently being clarified by the commissions established by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

If the student is not satisfied with the result obtained during the intermediate examinations, he will be able to retake them in the fourth grade of high school.

NŠA points out that the published results are preliminary, they have yet to be approved by the commissions. The results following the approval of the commissions can only be changed in favor of the students.

Starting from the 2024-2025 school year, the assessment of the state matriculation exam (up to 100 points) will consist of the assessments of the intermediate examination (up to 40 points) and the matriculation exam (up to 60 points). Having scored at least 35 points during the intermediate examination, the graduate who came to the exam will be sure that he passed it.
