Mervin Maldonado, Minister of People’s Power for Youth and Sports (Mindeporte), recently promised to create plans to better develop athletes who aspire to excel during the Olympic cycle leading up to Los Angeles 2028.

For the representatives of the National Government, headed by Nicolás Maduro, the goal will be to make the Venezuelan delegation one with enough potential to fight for medals, something that the team did not achieve in Paris 2024, where it only won seven diplomas endorsed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“We are going to focus on the application of the scientific method, as well as on sports planning and organization, because we want that to allow us to continue looking forward so that our country can overcome difficulties and, above all, can achieve great development of the capabilities of all its athletes,” he told the press department of Mindeporte.

Maldonado, who a few days ago met with the 33 members of the national team that participated in Paris 2024, approved the start of the National Sports Consultation, a program that will allow the concerns of the exponents of different disciplines to be known, in order to determine which guidelines will be included in their preparation for the next four years.

In order to carry out this task, he will be accompanied by Ninoska Clocier, president of the National Institute of Sport (IND), and the Director of High Performance, Luis Seijas, who hope that each of the decisions taken will favor Venezuela in order to once again stand out at an international level.

“All the will, awareness, talent and sporting spirit of Venezuela will be together with the great collective of our country with each of its categories, which will be vital to continue to deepen (a mechanism that allows us to be outstanding in all the competitions),” he added.
