According to Jackson, the decision not to file a complaint is due to the fact that, according to the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, at the time the Prosecutor’s Office acts ex officio, “immediately exempts the responsibility of other authorities or public officials who have witnessed any act that could be classified as a crime. And then they talked together with the undersecretary of the interior and it was considered that it was not necessary.
In this sense, he maintained, with this in addition “The will of the government has been made clear.” “Regardless of yesterday’s episode, certain learnings must be taken for granted, certain processes must be redoubled in the strategy for dealing with problems like this, but it shows very strongly at the outset a willingness on the part of the Executive to be able to talk with all the sectors in the South Zone”,

As to whether he agreed with the term “Mapuche political prisoners” that was used by Minister Siches, Jackson indicated that “there is a quite delicate situation because when the power of the state is exercised, it means depriving people of their liberty”.
“There are many cases, without due process, there are many people who, or through preventive prisons, as happened to the machi (Francisca) Linconao -which today is the Constituent Convention- and which was during many months deprived of liberty without finally discovering anything”, he indicated.
That situation, Jackson pointed out, has been repeated historically, “in particular by applying the State Security Law in the area where there is a conflict between the Chilean State and the Mapuche people,” he said. “That has happened many times, and it has been determined to demonstrate when they end up being released without any evidence, that there have been persecutions and many times political imprisonment for some who have been, rightly, confirmed as a montage in the past”.
“Therefore there is an open wound and that generates a much greater distrust in the penal system and in justice, and I think that is something that we have to work on so that there is greater trust and it does not happen again,” he added. .
As for a new withdrawal from pension funds, the minister recalled for his part that President Gabriel Boric, having approved the first withdrawals, said during the campaign that he would not be promoting a fifth withdrawalsince given the level of vaccination that we have, “we have the possibility of being able to achieve higher levels of employment, recover female employment, promote the work of SMEs and change the AFP system”.
In fact, he recalled, raising the minimum wage and improving the AFP system are among the objectives of the government program.
