The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), George Jacksonannounced this Monday afternoon -in the company of Senator Fabiola Campillay– That the Executive will give utmost urgency to the pardon project for the so-called prisoners of the social outbreak. The initiative is in the Senate.
“Today we would like to begin by announcing the utmost urgency of the pardon or amnesty bill, as it has been called, which is important for us in terms of human rights,” said the head of Segpres at a press point.

“There is a first debt and mission with respect to obtaining the truth and obtaining justice regarding the different cases that have occurred of human rights violations. There is also the duty and commitment to repair the victims,” added Jackson.
Likewise, he pointed out that Senator Campillai – who was blinded by the impact of a tear gas canister, fired by a Carabineros official in the framework of the social outbreak – requested this measure from the Executive.
Campillai said she was “happy” that the government has accepted her request, and called on legislators to vote in favor of the initiative.
“This amnesty law is very useful to begin to heal wounds, which have been left since October 18 and left by the old government, which, thank God, is gone,” said the parliamentarian.
Jackson also recalled that the project that is being processed in the Senate Chamber has a limited catalog of crimes, “which leave out most of the cases for which this law has been criticized.”
Urgency to other projects
The head of the Segpres informed of other initiatives that will have different degrees of urgency, in addition to the pardon project for the prisoners of the outbreak.
Jackson mentioned that the extension of the resources of the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (Mepco) -as announced by the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, during this day – will have immediate discussion. The same occurs with the message that incorporates Chile into the Escazú Agreement. Both initiatives were presented by the Executive.
In turn, the government will place a simple urgency on the project of the right of women to a life free of violence – introduced in the second administration of Michelle Bachelet.
In terms of children, the Executive will put great urgency on the project that creates the National Service for National Youth Reintegration, and a simple urgency on the reform of the Penal Code related to pimping, sexual exploitation and pornography of children and adolescents.
As for the environment, they will put great urgency on the project that creates the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service.
Regarding road safety, Jackson announced a simple urgency to the Automated Treatment System for Traffic Violations, known as the CATI Law.
Likewise, in electoral matters, they will immediately discuss the georeferencing bill.
