Minister Ecolo spoke with representatives of the demonstrators. The interview in which representatives of the Federation of Young Farmers (FJA) took part lasted almost half an hour. Several subjects were discussed, including phytosanitary standards and the problem of prices that are not remunerative enough for farmers.
The climate has worsened. The minister faced a few dozen increasingly hostile people. “Tellier, resign,” farmers chanted as firecrackers exploded near her.
“I came here to listen to them,” explained the minister on RTBF. “They have an anger that is very strong in relation to European issues, free trade, unfair competition with agriculture that is less respectful of the environment. We must be able to hear this anger.”
Faced with the growing hostility, Ms. Tellier had to leave the premises. Scuffles broke out. Demonstrators wanted to prevent the minister from leaving because they did not feel satisfied with her answers. The police intervened to escort him.
The interchange has already been partially cleared and traffic has been able to resume on the E411. The same might be true for the E42 during the evening.
