For better prevention. The Minister Delegate for Equality between Women and Men Bérangère Couillard visited the Center for the care of perpetrators of domestic violence Center Nouvelle-Aquitaine (CPCA), located at the Charles-Perrens hospital center in Bordeaux, this Friday September 8 followingnoon. Established in 2020 following the Grenelle meeting once morest domestic violence in 2019, these CPCAs aim to prevent the risk of repeat offenses by perpetrators suspected or convicted of violence once morest their spouse or even committing the act. After a confidential time with two authors, the former member of the 7th constituency of Gironde spoke with the actors of the center.

Created in November 2021, the Gironde CPCA is unique among the 30 national centers since it combines social care by the SOS Solidarités group and health care with the active participation of the hospital. Since its opening, “more than 200 perpetrators have been treated in the center,” indicates psychiatrist Stéphanie Amedro.

A communications campaign

Praising “the tremendous work” carried out by the teams, Bérangère Couillard wishes to go further. She announced the national launch by the end of the year of a television and internet communications campaign to make CPCAs known to as many people as possible. “I would like there to be more prevention before taking action. Today, 90% of requests come from court decisions and only 10% from voluntary action,” she explains.

An evaluation report should also be produced during the same period. However, it is impossible to have real figures on the effectiveness once morest this recurrence, only three years following the creation of the CPCAs. “It is still complicated to have perspective […] But it is a system that must be sustained,” she assured.

While recalling the 118 feminicides in 2022, Bérangère Couillard made a point of noting that the year 2023 “looks to be just as bad”. As of September 1, 2023, 76 women have lost their lives at the hands of their spouse or ex-spouse.
