The Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, defended the Pioneering Schools project, which aims to enhance the quality of education in Morocco and develop educational institutions in general.
In this context, the newly appointed minister at the head of the ministry stated that Al-Reyadah schools achieved unprecedented results according to evaluations conducted by specialized institutions, which reflects the effectiveness of the project in improving the educational level of male and female learners.
The minister, who was speaking in the discussion of the sector’s budget in the Education, Culture and Communication Committee of the House of Representatives, yesterday, Friday, added that the evaluations conducted between Al-Reyadah school students and regular school students showed a noticeable superiority for Al-Reyadah institutions.
In terms of numbers, Berrada explained that 60% of students in Al-Riyada schools showed outstanding performance compared to only 40% of students in regular schools, which, according to him, reflects the efforts made in developing these institutions and the great success achieved by the project in improving the level of education.
Regarding the parallel activities that were decided to be adopted in Al-Reyadah Preparatory Schools with the aim of motivating learners to engage in learning and combating school waste, Minister Barrada pointed out that the films that were supposed to be shown to the learners, and which had sparked widespread controversy recently, were deleted, and thus the matter was remedied.
Regarding the cost of the project, the government official confirmed that equipping one classroom does not exceed 15,000 dirhams, while the cost of changing the projector lamp in classrooms, which is done every two years, does not exceed 1,000 dirhams, considering that these data clearly reveal that Al-Reyadah schools are not burdensome. The sector’s budget has increased significantly.
As for the major challenges facing the project, the spokesman stressed the necessity of providing an appropriate educational environment, noting that “leadership cannot be achieved in invalid schools,” which, according to the minister, requires the restoration of educational institutions in various regions, where the government plans To be completed within three years to ensure a suitable learning environment for all.
Regarding the educational booklets for Al-Riyada schools, Berrada explained that the students obtained them with the exception of some areas in northern Morocco, while they will be available for the public to purchase like other textbooks, starting next year.
It should be noted that the training programs designated for implementing parallel activities in Al-Reyadah preparatory schools were recently met with a wave of criticism, following the inclusion of programs that include showing cinematic films with scenes that were considered “non-educational” and not in line with the moral values that should prevail in educational institutions in Morocco.
On the other hand, observers spoke of several challenges facing the project, including the delay in providing pedagogical equipment, the lack of rehabilitation of some institutions, the delay in delivering the equipment for classrooms, in addition to the failure to provide the necessary human resources from professors and administrative and technical frameworks, as well as the delay in paying Training fees and keeping up with educational, administrative and technical frameworks.

**Interview with Minister Mohamed Saad Berrada on the Pioneering Schools Project**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Minister Berrada. Can you start by giving us an overview of the Pioneering Schools project and its main objectives?
**Minister Berrada:** Thank you for having me. The Pioneering Schools project, particularly focused on Al-Reyadah schools, aims to elevate the quality of education in Morocco. Our goal is to develop educational institutions and ensure that they provide an effective learning environment for our students. The recent evaluations conducted by specialized institutions indicate that we are on the right path in achieving these objectives.
**Editor:** You mentioned in your recent address that Al-Reyadah schools are outperforming regular schools. Can you elaborate on these findings?
**Minister Berrada:** Yes, the evaluations clearly show that 60% of Al-Reyadah students perform outstandingly, while only 40% of students from regular schools achieve the same level. This is a significant indicator of the effectiveness of our educational reforms and investments in these specialized institutions.
**Editor:** There was some controversy regarding parallel activities and films intended for students. What actions have been taken to address these concerns?
**Minister Berrada:** I appreciate your question. We have listened to the feedback from parents and stakeholders. As a result, we decided to remove the films that sparked controversy from the program. Our priority is to ensure a constructive and positive learning experience for all students.
**Editor:** Regarding the financial aspects of the project, could you clarify the costs associated with equipping classrooms?
**Minister Berrada:** Certainly. Equipping a classroom does not exceed 15,000 dirhams, and maintaining projectors, which we do every two years, costs around 1,000 dirhams. This budget shows that investing in Al-Reyadah schools is not a burden but rather a strategic initiative for enhancing education in our country.
**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Minister Berrada. What are the next steps for the Pioneering Schools project?
**Minister Berrada:** Our focus will remain on continuous improvement. We aim to expand the reach of the program, enhance training for teachers, and further monitor student progress. We’re committed to making quality education accessible to all Moroccan learners.
**Editor:** Thank you for your time and the valuable information regarding the future of education in Morocco.
