“VSAT is additionally included. (…) Since these are waters and we have the appropriate equipment and using the fact that we have the appropriate capacities and ships, we asked other institutions to get involved,” Agnė Bilotaitė said to BNS on Tuesday.
She confirmed that the Klaipėda LNG terminal and the NordBalt marine electricity connection connecting Lithuania and Sweden are among the objects at which the vigilance level has been increased. The minister did not specify how many officers were additionally used to protect the objects.
The Public Security Service (VST) is responsible for the security of the Klaipėda LNG terminal.
According to A. Bilotaitė, the level of vigilance of the institutions at strategically important objects of the country has been raised to the level that was at the time of the rebellion in Russia by Yevgenijs Prigozhin, the boss of the Russian private military company “Wagner”, organized at the end of June.
In addition, a meeting of the Joint Threat Prevention and Crisis Management Group is being convened on Wednesday, where additional information prepared by the services will be heard and additional decisions will be made based on it.
Finland said on Tuesday that last week’s damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline with Estonia may be related to external factors.
Finland says it is still investigating whether the damage to the pipeline was intentional and who did it.
