Cuban Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila acknowledged the seriousness of the situation at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, where problems with the air conditioning in Terminal 3 persist.

In a broadcast published in FacebookRodríguez Dávila explained that they recently took a tour of the facilities.

In this regard, he pointed out that difficulties in acquiring the necessary resources have delayed repairs and generated a chain of problems that currently affect the airport’s operations.

“We have had difficulties in acquiring the resources for immediate repairs, which has led to a chain of problems that have influenced the situation we have today,” the Minister admitted.

The head of the Ministry of Transport announced that progress is being made on an intermediate solution that, although not definitive, will improve the reliability of the system and resolve the problem of the air conditioning. “It involves a comprehensive modernization for greater reliability,” he said.

Air conditioning problems at Cuba’s main airport since May

Since early May, José Martí International Airport, the main gateway to Cuba, has had problems with its air conditioning system.

High temperatures in Havana, which have exceeded 32 degrees, are aggravating the situation, making the atmosphere in the terminals uncomfortable for both workers and passengers.

The situation has generated numerous negative comments from travellers. “The way services are provided to passengers is unacceptable” and “it’s a sauna” are some of the criticisms expressed by users.
