It seems like a long time ago when your parents went to place a La Redoute order or check the sports results on the Minitel at home. However, a French company called Multiplié has decided to bring it back to life. For this, it has designed a small box, the MiniMit, which you just have to plug into your Minitel. And if your old bike hasn’t given up the ghost, it should light up and allow you to browse the old Minitel services.
According to the firm, the MiniMit contains an electronic card that connects to a wifi network on one side and to the DIN socket of the Minitel on the other, thus creating a bridge between old and new technologies. This mini-Minitel will thus contain a dozen old services, from the directory to 3615 ULLA in the form of a chatbot, via the Club des Poètes or the Liberation site, but also the weather forecast or the horoscope.
The company indicates that presales will be launched in December 2022, on the Ulule platform. To get your hands on the MiniMit, you will have to pay the pretty sum of 75 €. As for the different models of Minitel, they are sold on certain online platforms such as Leboncoin or Ebay at prices ranging from 1 to a hundred euros.
As a reminder, the Minitel was created by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and was used in France from the 1980s until the 2000s.
