New in the 2023 season: The 190 class in the MiniGP Austria Series closes the gap on the Austrian route to MotoGP. Talents can now register for the racing series.
The Austrian path to the motorcycle world championship will be expanded by an additional class in 2023: In addition to the existing 160 class, the MiniGP Austria Series will also offer a 190 class for young riders between the ages of 12 and 16 in the coming season. “We believe that with the new 190 class we can close the gap between the MiniGP and the Austrian Junior Cup even better,” explains Rene Binna from the organizer BG Sportpromotion.
With the two MiniGP classes (160cc and 190cc) and the already established Austrian Junior Cup, the red-white-red route towards MotoGP is consistently passable for talents from all age groups. The goal remains unchanged: Austrian talents in motorcycle road racing should be promoted as best as possible on the “Road to MotoGP” – the way towards the motorcycle world championship.
As in the previous season, motorcycle world championship race winner Gustl Auinger is the ideal companion on this journey. «The MiniGP Austria Series offers young talents the opportunity to try out motorcycle racing in a highly professional and safe environment. We were a bit surprised that we saw such a high level in the first season,” emphasized Auinger. “On the other hand, it also shows us that we are on the right track with the structure and development of the MiniGP Austria Series, and from 2023 also with the 190 class!”
As in the inaugural season, only identical Ohvale GP-0 160 motorcycles will be used in the 160 class of the MiniGP Austria Series in 2023.
In the new 190 class, uniform Ohvale GP-2 190 bikes will be raced for victory. The slightly larger motorcycles offer improved ergonomics and more freedom of movement for tall riders between the ages of 12 and 16. The tires on the Ohvale GP-2 190 are also larger at 12 inches (compared to 10 inches in the 160 class).
The entry fee for the entire MiniGP Austria Series season 2023 is between 900 and 1,400 euros. Further information and registration for both MiniGP classes available now at www.minigpaustria.at.
The FIM MiniGP World Series aims to create an equal platform for young drivers worldwide. MiniGP competitions worldwide are thus united and standardized in order to promote the skills of the young riders in the best possible way and improve their chances on the way to MotoGP. The minibike championship has also been held in Austria since 2022.
Ambassador of the FIM MiniGP Austria Series is GP winner Gustl Auinger. The top 2 of the FIM MiniGP Austria Series get the chance to face the international competition at the “FIM MiniGP World Final 2023”. The winner secures a place in one of the “Road to MotoGP” programs.
