DJI presented a new, small-format drone with the Mini 2 SE. According to the manufacturer, the quadcopter should offer a user-friendly and inexpensive entry into the drone hobby. The aircraft will be available in two sets with different accessories.
The Mini 2 SE weighs 249 grams, which is below the 250 gram limit set by the drone regulation subsequently represents a higher approval effort. Because the Mini 2 SE has a 12-megapixel camera, it needs to be registered; a drone driver’s license is not necessary due to the weight class below 250 grams.
The Mini 2 SE is foldable and can be stowed away accordingly. In addition to 12-megapixel photos, videos can be recorded with 2.7K resolution. According to DJI, the drone allows video transmission of up to 10 kilometers. However, the open class A1 only allows a flight on sight and at a maximum altitude of 120 meters.
Three-axis gimbal and automatic return function
The camera with its 1/2.3 inch sensor is installed in a three-axis gimbal. DJI specifies the flight time of the Mini 2 SE as 31 minutes. The drone has an automatic return function and should be particularly easy to take off and land with just a few inputs. According to DJI, the quadcopter should be able to hover stably even at wind speeds of 10.7 m/s (wind force 5).
The Mini 2 SE comes with a remote control. The basic version costs 390 euros and comes with a second set of rotors, a battery and a charger. The Fly-More package for 530 euros includes a second battery, a bag and three additional sets of rotors. The drone should be available from March 22, 2023.
