(Ouagadougou, November 8, 2023). The Council of Ministers met this Wednesday in an ordinary session, under the chairmanship of Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, President of the Transition, Head of State. Several files were examined and adopted for the smooth running of the Transition, according to the Government Spokesperson, Jean Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO.
On behalf of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, the Council authorized the withdrawal of operating permits for the Perkoa, Guiro, Yéou and Kalsaka mines. “After the crisis which shook the Perkoa mine and despite the support efforts of the State, the mine was unable to resume its work. In November 2022, the courts ordered the liquidation of the company Nantou Mining and the provisions of the mining code, in article 99, allow us to withdraw the permit for a new lessee. Concerning the Guiro mine, it has not been exploited since 2018. Added to this are the non-payment of taxes and royalties, and the fraud in the marketing of gold of which the company is guilty. . Its withdrawn permit will be made available to APEC (Agency for the Promotion of Community Entrepreneurship) for the relaunch of activities. Concerning the Yéou mine, unfortunately it was not operated from 2015 to 2017. The incomplete permit renewal request was deemed inadmissible. The Kalsaka mine has also remained unexploited since it was handed over to the Baladji group,” explained Minister Simon Pierre BOUSSIM.
The Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Resources, Commander Ismaël SOMBIE, made an oral communication to the Council relating to the recovery of debts from the National Society for Land Development and Rural Equipment (SONATER). Created in 2014, SONATER has carried out several operations to provide tractors for the benefit of numerous producers. “500 tractors in 2017, 400 in 2019, 500 tractors equipped in 2021 and other agricultural equipment were made available to different producers,” said Minister SOMBIE. He specified that the implementation of these various operations generated debts at the level of SONATER by customer creditors who had to take these tractors subsidized to the tune of 40 to 60% whose repayments might not be effective at this day. The Council instructed the taking of strong measures for the recovery of these debts estimated at around 11 billion FCFA.
