Classes in Guatemala: Mineduc clarifies situation due to fire in AMSA
Mineduc points out that classes are suspended to prioritize the health of students due to the situation generated by the fire at the AMSA landfill in Villa Nueva.

The Ministry of Education (Mineduc) reported that classes will continue to be suspended this Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the departments of Guatemala, Sacatepéquez and Escuintla.
He added that the suspension is maintained due to air pollution associated with the fire being fought at the landfill of the Authority for the Sustainable Management of the Basin and Lake of Amatitlán (AMSA).
He added that this Tuesday followingnoon, the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology indicated that the air quality is classified as “harmful to health.”
While the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) recommended maintaining the preventive action implemented at the beginning of this week.
The Mineduc highlighted that it is important to protect the health of boys, girls, adolescents, young people, teachers and staff who work in public, private, cooperative, municipal and academies schools, which is why it maintains the suspension of educational activities in the three departments affected by air pollution.
While the tasks to control the fire continue on the landfill platforms.
At a press conference this Tuesday, it was reported that Conred filed a complaint with the Public Ministry for 37 fires arson in the national territory, including that of the AMSA landfill, which has been recorded since Sunday, April 7.
