During the Minecraft Live event, Mojang Studios and Microsoft showed more details regarding Minecraft’s next major free update, version 1.21, scheduled for 2024. This Wednesday, players signed up to the game’s preview program were able to start testing one of these new features 1.21 in early stage.

Both the Minecraft Preview 1.20.50.21 build for Windows 10/11, Xbox, iOS and Android can now test the new Crfollowing block, which supposedly automates the creation of items in the game.

The changelog points out the following changes:

Added the Crfollowing block to the game;
The Crfollowing can be crafted with Redstone Dust, Iron Ingots, Crafting Table and Dropper;
Crfollowing uses distinct particles when creating;
Crfollowing has distinct sounds for creation and failure;
Explosion resistance is 3.5;
A comparator connected to a Crfollowing outputs a signal that is equal to the number of non-empty slots plus deactivated slots;
Moving items to the creator from the Hopper or Dropper distributes them evenly instead of first filling the first stack;
Powering the Crfollowing with Redstone signal causes it to create and produce the item.

The Java version of the game, in Minecraft Snapshot 23w42a, which describes the changelog:

Crfollowing is a new block that allows you to craft items and blocks via Redstone;
The Crfollowing will eject one crafted item at a time when powered by a new Redstone signal/pulse (not a continuous signal);
Upon receiving this new signal, the Crfollowing will eject the recipe result from the front face;
If the output result has multiple item types, all result items will be ejected together;
The Crfollowing can be oriented in any direction when placed;

There are also details regarding the new item’s interface:

Crfollowing has a 3×3 interactive crafting grid
Crfollowing crafting grid slots are toggleable, meaning the player can change the behavior of a slot by clicking or pressing a slot with an empty hand
A slot that is ‘toggled’ cannot contain any items and therefore cannot have items placed in it by other blocks such as Hoppers and Droppers
Unlike the Crafting Table, the Craftsman displays a preview of the crafted item that will be crafted and ejected on the next Redstone pulse, but cannot be manually picked up by the player
The Crfollowing UI is shared among all players who interact with the Crfollowing, meaning multiple players can interact with the Crfollowing at the same time, similar to chests and hoppers

Other features planned for the game’s next update include procedurally generated underground structures called Trial Chambers, a copper lamp and more.
