MINCIN Minister warns that “neither coffee nor oil” are guaranteed for September

Betsy Díaz, Minister of Domestic Trade (Mincin) in Cuba, warned users of the ration book on national television that coffee and cooking oil are not guaranteed for this month of September.

This Saturday, in a meeting with the country’s trade executives, the board of directors stated that up to this minute there are no guarantees for many products.

“We have no plans for September, just as there was none in August, neither oil nor coffee, and what we are responsible for is the effort to deliver what is available,” said the Minister in a speech broadcast on local television. In another clip from the speech, the official added that sugar was not in the country either.

Cubans reacted on social media: “Stop everything. The Minister of Domestic Trade of CubaBetsy Díaz Velázquez said today on the National News that, for the month of September, “neither oil nor coffee” are guaranteed, as well as other products belonging to the basic family basket,” said an independent reporter in X.

“The fact that the ships did not arrive on time is due to the lateness of the purchase plan, in my opinion. I also do not understand where our country’s sugar is, since the minister is talking about importing sugar. This is not understandable, really, just like the coffee,” said another user.

Díaz, the MINCIN director who warned the warehouse’s customers that there will be no oil or coffee in September, just as happened in August, also pointed out that “there are three ships with 52 thousand tons of rice that have not been able to be unloaded at the ports” because there is no money to pay them.

By Monday, MINCIN hopes to complete the distribution of most of the products, except in some territories where the situation is more complicated, such as in Camagüey, especially in the municipality of Sibanicú, and in Granma, where the distribution policy has not been adequate, according to officials.

On the other hand, it was reported that the Special Municipality of the Isle of Youth is prepared to begin the distribution of the September food basket.
