The Milwaukee Brewers clinched the National League Central pennant on Wednesday, becoming the second team after the New York Yankees to guarantee their presence in the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason.

The hoppy team, which has had the valuable contribution of Venezuelans William Contreras and Jackson Chourio throughout the 2024 campaign, took over its zone after the Chicago Cubs’ 5-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics. And they celebrated it with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, leaving them on the field.

The club managed by Pat Murphy is champion in the center of the old circuit with 10 matches left to play in the regular round, since it is 11 games ahead of its closest pursuer, which is precisely the bear team.

Goal within reach

Despite the joy, Milwaukee still has one goal ahead of it in the playoffs: securing a direct spot in the Division Series. This can only be achieved if it finishes among the two teams with the best record in the National League.

Milwaukee currently has the third best record with 88 wins and 64 losses. They are ahead of Philadelphia (91-61) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (90-62).

If they are unable to climb to the top two spots in the standings, the sparkling team will go to the Wild Card Series against the sixth best team in the old circuit, which is currently the Arizona Diamondbacks (84-68).

Yankees to playoffs

The Yankees also secured their presence in the Big Show’s postseason after beating the Seattle Mariners 2-1 to reach 89 wins.

The New York team has guaranteed to be among the top six in the American League. Before Thursday’s game, they are first in the standings with 89-63 and 9.5 games ahead of the seventh-place Detroit Tigers (80-73), who only have nine games left to play.

Despite already being registered in the playoffs, the Bronx Mules are not yet champions of the Eastern Division of the new circuit. However, it seems difficult for them not to win the pennant, since they are five games ahead of the second-place Baltimore Orioles (84-68).
