PHILADELPHIA — William Contreras hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 on Wednesday night to win five in six games.
Venezuelan Contreras added three hits and two RBIs for the Brewers, leaders of the National League Central Division. Blake Perkins also drove in a couple of runs. Five of Milwaukee’s 10 hits were doubles.
Nick Castellanos homered for Philadelphia, whose four-game skid came to an end.
Hoby Milner (2-0), Elvis Peguero, Joey Payamps and Devin Williams each pitched one scoreless inning of relief. They combined to prescribe seven strikeouts, without giving away walks.
Williams earned his 24th save in 26 chances.
The loss went to Jeff Hoffman (3-2).
For the Brewers, Venezuelans Contreras 5-3 with two RBIs, Andruw Monasterio 4-2 with a run scored. Dominican Willy Adames 4-1.
For the Phillies, Panamanian Edmundo Sosa 2-0.
