President of the Republika Srpska (an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik will visit Moscow on May 23 to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by Mr. Dodik himself in an interview with the TV channel RTRS.

Milorad Dodik specified that he intends to discuss economic projects and other “important geopolitical issues” with the President of Russia. According to the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, questions about the supply of weapons will not be raised. He indicated that in a conversation with Vladimir Putin he wants to discuss “the world in the future.” “So that we can adjust to all this, because obviously the world is no longer the same as it was ten years ago,” he added.

At the end of October 2022 Milorad Dodik declared about the intention to develop cooperation with Russia, China and the United States. He also pointed out that the Republika Srpska will continue its path to the European Union, but the entity will not join NATO.

In April 2023, Mr. Dodik warned that he was seriously considering secession of the Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The warning was the reaction of the leader of the Bosnian Serbs to the blocking by the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina of the republic’s plans to transfer all real estate located on its territory into its ownership. Later, Milorad Dodik stated that the entity would become an independent state through peaceful means, and not through military action.
